Australian outfit High Tension's debut album Death Beat was given an overseas release last fall, but New Damage Records is curbing a steep import charge for Canadian metal fans by issuing the set up here. While the album hits retailers next Tuesday (February 18), you can give the whole record a spin ahead of time via Exclaim.ca.
As previously reported, the band features former Young & Restless vocalist Karina Utomo, who has here opted to deliver "banshee screams" on metal-flecked anthems instead of singing on top of more dance-rock-oriented fare. The album was recorded at Melbourne's Studios in the City with Tom Larkin (King Cannons, Young & Restless, Shihad) and includes the previously teased "Mountain of Dead" and debut "High Risk High Rewards."
Also found on the set are "Blaze Up," a motorized track riding a slight "Highway Star" influence on top of its blacktop-peeling rhythms; the viciously pounded "Collingwood"; and the hard-hitting if melodic "Astral Plane."
You can sample those tracks and more down below.
