High on Fire Unveil New 'Luminiferous' LP

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Apr 15, 2015

Nearly a year after songwriting sessions began, metal trio High on Fire have properly announced the impending arrival of their "sonically huge" new LP. The Bay Area band's seventh album is called Luminiferous, and it'll brighten up our lives June 23 via eOne.

As previously reported, High on Fire started crafting songs for the collection last year, with writing sessions having taken place in New Orleans, L.A. and Oakland. A press release now reveals that the unit took the cream of the crop to Salem, MA's GodCity Studios, where they tracked the tunes with esteemed producer Kurt Ballou (Converge). The studio wiz had also worked with the band on 2012's De Vermis Mysteriis.

The nine-song outing is described as a "supersonic exercise in conquest," focusing once again on the lead-heavy riffs of Matt Pike, "thundering drums" and more. Thematically, the band suggest the song cycle is about standing up to the secret powers that be.

"We're doing our part to expose The Elite and the fingers they have in religion, media, governments and financial world downfall and their relationship to all of our extraterrestrial connections in the race to control this world," Pike proclaimed boldly in a statement. "Wake up, it's happening. All while we stare at a socially engineered lie we think of as normalcy. Unless we wake from the dream, there will come true doom."

Samples from the set have yet to arrive, but you can check out the tracklisting down below. You can also and eyeball the supernatural, Illuminati-esque album art up above.
