The most impressive debut from the new power trio led by former Sleep guitarist Matt Pike. Since Sleep's break-up over the almost lost classic Jerusalem (the most intense Sabbath-like single-track album ever recorded), Pike has been fronting this new power trio. And while they are not Sleep, the band may be the next best thing. High On Fire continues to travel down the same road of gargantuan guitar riffs, pounding drums and songs that scream at you through your speakers. This is the essential stoner/heavy album of 2000, hands down.
