"Die Slow"

I can't remember how many times I caught them live last summer, but it felt as though every time I went to a festival, L.A. noiseniks HEALTH were wreaking havoc on some stage. According to their label, Lovepump United, the foursome have a new disc on the way titled GET COLOR, but first we have the long overdue follow-up to the one-two punch of their self-titled debut album and its companion, the remixed DISCO.

"Die Slow" demonstrates great leaps have been taken by the band to expand on their dissonant noise beatdowns. Not only does the new single not send you running for your noise reduction earplugs, but it's actually quite melodious. Instead of the expected screeching guitars, primal outbursts and rhythmic imbalance, they use a pounding uniform beat and surround it with pulsating guitar scrawls and dreamy vocal harmonies. It reminds me a little of late shrill shoegazers and fellow Los Angelans Medicine, which I mean with the utmost respect.

The seven-inch is out today (April 7) and you can order it by clicking here.
