After sharing her new single "Player of Games" earlier this month, the self-proclaimed Marie Antoinette of pop stan culture Grimes is gearing up to drop a visual accompaniment to the futuristic pop tune: today, she's released a 35-second trailer for the song's official music video.
The Anton Tammi-directed "Player of Games" music video is set to premiere on Wednesday (December 22) at 9 a.m. ET — and if this teaser is any indication, it's going to be quite dramatic.
There's fire, there's blood, there's drawn-on freckles; a lot to unpack here. Grimes wields a pink lightsaber and the font on the ending title card definitely resembles the famous Star Wars block text, meanwhile she also dons Khaleesi-esque tresses and a sword like she's Carly Rae Jepsen or something. And then there's the giant chess pieces, which often look like they have one of those viral sunset lamps casting a golden glow upon them.
The titular villain appears to be some kind of knight whose armour is far from shining. Seemingly both her lover and her nemesis (hmm, we wonder who could've possibly inspired this?), Grimes must journey through the cold expanses of space to defeat him at the one game he's not the best player at: love.
Watch the teaser for "Player of Games" below.
Grimes also recently launched her AI girl group NPC with a feature on house DJ Chris Lake's "A Drug from God" — because she has literally zero interest in being famous anymore.
