Greaseballs

Tombstone Wax

While its CD cover featuring a skeleton surfing a wave around a series of tombstones doesn’t inspire boatloads of confidence in its musical quality, Tombstone Wax does in fact offer a strong collection of surf instrumentals. With roots extending back to the mid-’80s, Chicago’s the Greaseballs convey a solid rapport as musicians. Tombstone Wax features enough variety to prevent the group from getting lost in the shuffle of scores of other almost indistinguishable surf bands. Playing with a similar upbeat approach as the much revered Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet, the Greaseballs’ latest disc offers an entertaining collection of instrumentals.
