Granny Squares 'hi hi hi hi hi' (EP stream)

Published Sep 03, 2014
Kaity McWhinney and Tracey Vath, two-thirds of Vancouver jangle-pop trio Love Cuts, have opted to strip things down even more in their new project Granny Squares, a duo built on guitars, drums and vocals. The group's five-song, debut EP is called hi hi hi hi hi (five "hi"s, high five!) and was recorded by Adam Fothergill (B-Lines, Cindy Lee). It's fairly similar to Love Cuts — simple song structures, often hilarious lyrics ("Groceries" is about following your crush around as they pick up food and beer) and plenty of excellent vocal harmonies. In fact, it's some of their best work yet.
