Gord Downie Honoured by Drake and Toronto Raptors at Playoff Game
The Toronto Raptors may have pushed the Cleveland Cavaliers one game closer to a play-off series sweep last night (May 5), but at least the hometown crowd at the Air Canada Centre got to witness the meeting of two of Canada's most beloved music makers.
Unsurprisingly, Drake was sat courtside cheering on the Raps as the team's official global ambassador, and the Tragically Hip's Gord Downie was also welcomed as a guest at yesterday evening's game.
Drake and Downie's paths crossed on the court at half-time, as they exchanged a rather heartwarming embrace. Drizzy made his appreciation for Downie known with a dramatic fawning bow before going in for a hug with the singer.

Drake and the fans in the sold-out arena weren't the only ones excited to see Downie in the crowd, though. Earlier in the game, the Raptors' mascot also imparted his well wishes on Downie by presenting the Hip frontman with a jersey — and, yeah, another hug.
An outpouring of appreciation ensued on Twitter, and you can see some of those fan responses down below.
As previously reported, Downie was diagnosed with brain cancer last spring. He's since played with the Hip on their 2016 "Man Machine Poem" tour and performed select shows in support of last year's solo recording Secret Path.
