Finally, this obscure 1992 cassette mix of Marc Bolan-esque riffs, Roky Erickson-confused inspiration and psychedelic Elvis Presley strutting receives a proper compact disc re-release. The textures might at times sound very aged, but the personality element protrudes through the quiet, lo-fi blanket quite noticeably. And despite the odd references, the songwriting team of Doran/Charmichael manages to stay far away from any forms of quirkiness and novelty. This is about as handcrafted as music can get.
