While soundtrack maestro Gianni Marchetti may have been eclipsed by many of his more popular peers, he still stands as one of Italy's most musically fascinating figures. Helping highlight this is now Transversales Disques, which will be reissuing the underrated composer's incredibly rare soundtrack Il Magnifico Tony Carrera.
Originally released in 1969 on the legendary CAM imprint, the French reissue hub will give the album a second lease on life on May 28 with a vinyl re-release. This will mark the first-ever vinyl release of the score, with original copies all going for three-dollar figures these days.
For the unfamiliar, Transversales Disques offers the following:
The score includes lots of different atmospheres and crazy arrangements: from fuzzy dark psychedelic themes with harpischord and haunted choirs (performed by the famous 4 + 4 di Nora Orlandi) to angelic and dreamy vocal themes. Also contains some tense climax sitar tunes with beautiful bass sound.
The reissue will also balloon CAM's original 12-track vinyl release to an impressive 21 tracks. "This reissue dropped some uninteresting carnivalesque tracks in order to include some nice unreleased variations of the themes, plus all the suspense cues that were largely removed from the original tracklisting," Transversales Disques explains.
The vinyl reissue was remastered from the original master tapes, and you can get an idea what to expect via the sampler below.
