Footprintz

Utopia

Footprintz are a Montreal-based duo consisting of musicians Adam Hunter and Clarian North. This three-track single, Utopia, is the second release on the Visionquest label, co-founded by techno legend Seth Troxler. The title track, with its understated vocals, guitar melody and dreamy synth, comes across much like Hot Chip meets Fujiya & Miyagi, up to its inspired and unexpected gear change about three minutes in. The following cut, "Golden Dreams," has more of a Cut Copy feel, with catchy vocal harmonies brimming with longing and optimism. The closing track is a fantastic reworking of "Utopia" by British expert remixer Ewan Pearson, who picks up the pace, bringing in a sound somewhat akin to Alexis Taylor fronting a slightly more house-y Underworld, back when they were good. The end result is a great three-track single of blissed-out techno-pop signalling interesting things to come from both Footprintz and the Visionquest label.
