This year marks the 18th anniversary of industry showcase North by Northeast, and like years past, organizers are staggering performer announcements until the event takes place throughout Toronto on June 11 to 17. That said, the lone act announced thus far is a whopper, as the Flaming Lips are coming to NXNE.
The legendary Oklahoma odd pop unit will come to Hogtown on June 16 to headline a free outdoor show at the city's Yonge-Dundas Square. The outdoor portion of the event has become a touchstone for NXNE, with last year's concerts bringing in over 110,000 people over the course of four days to check out acts like Devo, Men Without Hats and Fucked Up.
Altogether, roughly 650 bands are expected to play NXNE this year. The event will also include film and interactive sessions.
The rest of the schedule has yet to be unveiled, but for the city of Toronto, the excitement is already in the air.
