As reported earlier this year, UK electronic powerhouse Warp Records is marking its 20th anniversary this year. To celebrate, the label has various festive activities happening in '09, including a series of special Warp 20 live events and, the focus of this here article, the release of a definitive Warp best-of comp. For the last few months, fans have been helping choose the collection's tracklist by voting on their favourite Warp tracks from the last 20 years, with the top-10 fan-voted songs to be combined with some selections from Warp co-founder Steve Beckett to make a 20-track album. Well, the polls have now closed and the fans' top-10 list has been announced.
So what made the list? As it turns out, a lot of classics, including Boards of Canada's "Roygbiv," LFO's "LFO" (Leeds Warehouse Mix), Squarepusher's "My Red Hot Car" and Autechre's "Gantz Graf." A few more recent cuts made the list as well, though, such as Battles' "Atlas" and "I Wanna Be Your STD" by Detroit-based producer Jimmy Edgar. And the No. 1-voted track? Well, that honour belongs to Aphex Twin's "Windowlicker," which really shouldn't come as any sort of surprise.
There's still no word on what Beckett has chosen for his Warp best-of selections or when the comp will be released. For now, though, here's the fans top-10, with other top-voted tracks thrown on just for kicks:
