Fairweather

Alaska

BY Stuart GreenPublished Jan 1, 2006

With two years of reflection and rediscovery behind them since the release of their debut album, the DC-based quartet emerges with a revitalised sound and a renewed sense of purpose that takes them well beyond the conventional and commonplace emo of their first release. This four-track teaser EP, which arrives in advance of another full-length early next year, finds Fairweather building on, as opposed to completely abandoning, the sound of their debut, incorporating more crushing sonics that recall the chug and groove melodic metal of Quicksand and Texas is the Reason. Alaska is a tasty, albeit too short, appetiser to next year's main course.
