The Extremities tap friends and frequent collaborators in a bid to showcase their impressive production skills with this album of remixes. In the process, they pull in some big names that appeared as guests on the original tracks, which should be a big help in getting producer/MPC button smasher Fresh Kils and producer/DJ Uncle Fester a little more notice. For Re:Fresh, the duo take their remixes in very different directions than the originals, often adding energy and hype-ness to songs that were fairly laidback, in most cases even improving upon the originals. Another nice bonus is the opportunity to have Uncle Fes add his precise cuts constructed by scratching together lyrics from a few different hip-hop classics when the originals were DJ-less. The Extremities provide original beats for previous mixtape tracks "That Purple," by JD Era, and "Lost and Found," by Ambition, use low-end synth to make the beats nasty for D-Sisive's "Like This," with Guilty Simpson and DJ Grouch, as well as the Get By's "Lift Off." The latter also uses dirty rock drums, while Ain't No Love's EDM-influenced club beat for "Little Champion" is replaced by a funky rhythm section and jazzy horns, which will likely appeal more to fans of guest Skyzoo. As well, the record also features Ghettosocks, Saukrates, Wordsworth, Prince Po and more. And, best of all, Re:Fresh comes as a free download with the instrumentals as a bonus. Total win!
