This year has been a good one for fans looking to get their fix of late guitar god Jimi Hendrix. Back in March, his estate issued the previously unreleased Valleys of Neptune, while the tribute Experience Hendrix Tour hit the road in the U.S. Now, the tour will be coming back for another leg in the fall, and this time, it's coming to Canada.
Hendrix's estate has been staging Experience Hendrix events since 1995 (it was originally called the Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar Festival), but this marks the first time it has come to Canada. There are currently three Canadian dates: Toronto, Quebec City and Montreal. Interestingly, there's no Vancouver date, despite the fact that Hendrix periodically lived in the city during his childhood.
The tour features a star-studded lineup including Steve Vai, Robert Randolph, Eric Johnson, Los Lobos, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and more. Perhaps most exciting for Hendrix fans is the inclusion of Billy Cox, the bassist who played with Hendrix in Band of Gypsies and the 1970 incarnation of the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
The tour kicks off on October 26. The week before, Legacy will release the box set West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology. It will include four CDs of unreleased recordings plus a DVD documentary about the guitarist's life.
