Instead of being a Cyndi Lauper cover, Täbï Yösha's "True Colors" — the title track of the Quebec artist's debut EP — is a slinky, mid-tempo affirmation with a rubber-band bassline. But the journey there begins in a rather different space, with the undeniably summery party anthem, "Rosé," featuring a French verse from KNLO. There's a palpable narrative to the five tracks; an electronic-forward, dance-oriented R&B collection with a splash of neo-soul, all made in collaboration with beatsmith Suiker. "Pause" displays Yösha in the height of her dancefloor-filling power, balancing the sticky, tropical flourishes of Suiker's instrumentals and the gravitas distilled in her voice amid the playful melismas; no umlaut goes unsung.
