Eternia

It's Called Life

BY Thomas QuinlanPublished Nov 1, 2005

Urbnet Records, home to both Classified and DL Incognito, has given Eternia her opportunity to shine… finally. For more than a few years, Eternia has been making major moves in Canada, the U.S. and Australia, as well as recording with infamous underground artists like Maestro (Fresh Wes), Apathy and the rest of the DemiGodz, Freestyle of the Arsonists, and Cesar Comanche and 9th Wonder of the Justus League. It’s Called Life, released hot on the heels of her mix-tape Where I Been – The Collection and a stint on the Vans Warped Tour, is a very personal and honest look into the life of Silk Kaya and her rap alter ego. She highlights her place as a female in the male-dominated world of rap; discusses her failed relationships; and on "Love,” a track that features her sister Jessica singing on the chorus, Eternia relates the touching story of her own near-abortion at the hands of her mother and the lessons she learned from it and her mother. But it’s not all emo; "Hate,” a scathing, venomous diss track to an unnamed individual, proves Eternia can battle with the best of them. With production from Tone Mason, Collizhun, Simahlak and others, as well as guest appearances by Freestyle, Wordsworth, DJ Dopey, Helixx C and Kenn Starr, Eternia’s It’s Called Life should get the attention it deserves.
