Watergate O5

BY Marinko JarebPublished Feb 1, 2010

Fashion designer, record label owner, world renowned DJ and producer Ellen Allien follows Onur Ozer, Sacha Funke, Konrad Black and Sebo K to lay down the latest mix for Berlin's most scenic night club and boutique label, Watergate. Watergate 05 is consistent with Allien's other output, being both deep and touched with emotional intensity, and a bit on the house-influenced edge of techno, with a dash of electro thrown in. If the sounds on this mix are any indication of the vibe at the club, Watergate is a must for more educated and adventurous travellers desiring an intimate experience of Berlin nightlife. John Tejada's "The End of it All" is the one track on this collection that best captures both the spirit of the sound and the beautiful chaos of Berlin after dark. The mix finishes with Brigitte Fontaine & Khan's "Fine Mouch," which goes to show that the Germans don't take themselves all that seriously anymore. Ellen Allien's outing for Watergate is a tantalizing taste of dance in the late night capital of the world.
