Sludgey NOLA doomsmiths Down announced a while back that they would be following up their 2007 set Down III: Over the Under with a series of EPs under the Down IV banner. We already heard a couple of clips from the impending Down IV Part 1 - The Purple EP, and now you can stream the whole megillah down below.
Setting aside the previously teased "Witchtripper" and "Misfortune Teller," opener "Levitation" features a chunky mosh intro, but sidles into some soulful Southern metal-imbued by the bluesy growl of vocalist Philip Anselmo. "Open Coffins" offers more stoner-swagger, while "This Work Is Timeless" brings some eerie, Sabbath-styled crunch.
As previously reported, Down IV Part 1 - The Purple EP, the first of four such mini-efforts, drops September 18 through the group's own Down Records.
You can listen to the EP below courtesy of Billboard.
