Aju was preparing for his Toronto show at The Rainbow Palace in Kensington Market when Exclaim! TV caught up with him. We discussed his new album Heirlooms and how it relates to his personal background, namely his late father who was a jazz musician in the Bay Area. Afterwards he delivered a set of his spacious and atmospheric yet entirely danceable beats.
Heirlooms comes out May 5 on the Circus Company label. The album is Aju's first full-length since his 2008 debut LP Open Wide.
