CJ Sleez

Back From the Brink

BY Stuart GreenPublished Dec 1, 2005

Well there’s really no mistaking who CJ Sleez is or what she’s about. Her name and the cover and title of her latest EP kind of sums it all up, doesn’t it? With help from Robin Black’s goth-glam guitar master Stacy Stray, the Toronto-based gutter rock diva offers up six slabs of mid-tempo mayhem. While her live performances are the ideal setting to experience what CJ is all about, this disc does its best to capture her Iggy Pop-influenced raw power and energy. In-your-face songs about drinking, fucking and hard living let you know the fixture at Toronto’s Bovine Sex Club is not afraid to tell it like it is. Same goes for her recently-released book of memoirs, Poor Little Bitch Girl, for which this disc would be the perfect soundtrack accompaniment.
