Can to Be Explored in Two-Volume Biography with Contributions from James Murphy, Geoff Barrow, Daniel Miller
Published Mar 28, 2014Can haven't been musically active for some time, but the iconic krautrock group's legacy lives on thanks to periodic reissues. Soon, fans will have a chance to explore Can's history in even more depth thanks to an official two-volume biographical book.
The tome is being written by Rob Young (who has previously penned books on Warp Records, Rough Trade and British folk music) and is slated to be published by Faber Social in the spring of 2016.
The first volume of the book will detail the history of the group. This will include interviews with the band members and will doubtless examine their place in Germany's krautrock scene in the '60s and '70s.
The second volume is described as a "symposium" in which the band's keyboardist Irmin Schmidt and Electronic Beats editor in chief Max Dax will curate a selection of pieces inspired by Can. Some notable contributors will include James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, Geoff Barrow of Portisthead/BEAK>, Andrew Weatherall, and Mute Records founder Daniel Miller.
There's still a couple of years until the book will be complete, so expect more details to emerge in due course.
