Sled Island is kind of like the Calgary Stampede for music nerds, attracting big-name bands from around the world to convene in Calgary for four days each summer. This is the fourth year for the annual event, and judging by the bands already signed up to play, it looks like another stellar line-up.
The Sled Island blog now features a preliminary list of bands that will be playing this year's festival, which runs from June 30 to July 3. Among the big name international artists already on board are Built to Spill, Girl Talk, Black Lips, Les Savy Fav, !!!, Deerhoof, the Melvins, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, and Deerhoof. There are also plenty of Canadian favourites, including the King Kahn & BBQ Show, Mark Sultan, Fucked Up, You Say Party! We Say Die!, Bison B.C. and Women.
Head over to the festival blog here to see the list of 90 bands. Remember, this is only the first batch, as the festival promises over 150 acts will eventually be announced.
The festival will be curated by locals Adam Kamis and Kallen Law, as well as guests King Kahn, Quintron & Miss Pussycat, and Fucked Up.
Tickets are already on sale, with general admission festival passes running for $170. There's also a small amount of all-access VIP passes available. Main stage day passes and individual show tickets will be issued after the full line-up is announced on May 1.
