A Night Out With...

BY Joshua OstroffPublished Aug 1, 2002

Going from pop stardom to the wheels of steel is usually perceived about as credibly as a supermodel record or a pro b-ball rapper, but George Alan O'Dowd, better known as Boy George, has gone where Perry Farrell faltered. Nobody could have expected the former Culture Club front-man to still be successful in the '00s, but he's made a considerable name for himself as an overpaid, globetrotting DJ and his latest compilation, Night Out, cements his non-novelty status. Sure, some of the music selected is pretty gay - there's even a cut from the Gay and Lesbian Disco Association! - but the underlying theme is techno, thanks to some dark and occasionally tribal breaks from Jon Carter, Christian Smith and Baz, among others. Nothing mind-blowing, but not a bad night out, really.
