Following a lengthy eight-year hiatus, Boss Hog have announced they will return to the stage next month for a hometown New York show. And not as some newfangled, likely inferior Version 2.0 but as the original line-up, meaning Cristina Martinez, hubby Jon Spencer, Hollis Queens, Jens Jurgensen and Mark Boyce will all be performing at the December 17 concert.
The announcement comes in the wake of news late this summer that Boss Hog would also be performing at the Melvins/Mike Patton-curated All Tomorrow's Parties Nightmare Before Christmas festival, which takes place in Minehead, England early next month. According to Boss Hog front-woman Martinez, the bands revival also comes as a nice tie-in with George Bush ending his tenure as U.S. president.
"Its been two torturous terms of Republican disease and culture death, NME quotes Martinez as saying. "Now that we're free, it's the perfect time for us to bring back our own brand of sick in celebration.
The last time we got a taste of Boss Hogs "brand of sick, as Martinez puts it, was in 2000 with their album Whiteout. And look, Exclaim! reviewed it, but not too kindly it seems.
There is no word yet if Boss Hog will take their show on the road for more dates or if any trips to the studio are planned for new recordings.
