Last year, the Books' singer/guitarist Nick Zammuto launched his own side-project, simply called Zammuto, and promised to record for "however long it takes" until he had a new LP. Well, he's now done, and will release his self-titled debut album on April 3 via Temporary Residence Ltd.
According to a press release, "Zammuto marks a deep reinvention of the highly detailed, genre-defying spirit that made seminal albums such as The Lemon of Pink and The Way Out possible."
For a taste of Zammuto's solo tunes, listen to the recent Idiom Wind EP at the bottom of this page. While these quirky, avant-garde tracks will doubtless appeal to fans of the songwriter's prior work, "The whispered, folksy vocals that became a trademark of the Books are for the most part shed in favour of an uncharacteristically confident, soaring delivery, often fuelled by a wide array of vocal effects."
A tracklisting and single have yet to emerge, but scroll past Idiom Wind and you can watch a making-of mini-doc by Naked Musicians at the bottom of the page.
