This record plays like Roy Orbison and Chris Isaak meeting Reverend Horton Heat in a 1950s Hollywood shooting gallery. It has the right amount of lounge-cool dressed in a sharkskin suit. The instrumentals are good with a vague sleaziness reminiscent of an old-style strip club infused with surf guitars. They dip into a bit of tango on “Sway” and cover “Shakin’ All Over” and Tom Waits’ “Jockey Full of Bourbon.”
