Bleached

Silver Dollar Room, Toronto ON June 16

A band fronted by two sisters playing a lo-fi, reverb-heavy take on '60s girl groups is about as fresh an idea in 2012 as the loud-quiet-loud dynamic in 1996. Yet Bleached, playing their third night of a three-night stand at the Silver Dollar, made a strong case for yet another entry into the genre. On top of writing some top-notch tunes, former Mika Miko members Jennifer and Jessica Clavin put on a ripping live show, with Jennifer exuding confidence as frontwoman. Their set, peppered with songs from their seven-inches and cuts from a forthcoming full-length, was a tight, short well-oiled machine. But it really took off after performing "Searching Through the Past," and the high energy never dissipated. Jennifer's onstage confidence seemed to only grow after she ditched the guitar for their second to last song, suggesting a new indie heroine in the making. That full-length can't come soon enough.
