Billy Corgan Designs Signature Stratocaster

BY Josiah HughesPublished Jul 4, 2008

Perhaps taking a break from tarnishing the reputation of the Smashing Pumpkins before launching his plotted Gish tour, Billy Corgan has set his sights on another iconic rock item for maximum capital: the Fender Stratocaster.

As part of their Artist Series, the entry will be a two-tone Stratocaster "made to Corgan’s exact specifications to recreate his famous mid-’90s buzzsaw tone, this instrument features two Special Design DiMarzio Billy Corgan single-spaced humbucking pickups (neck and bridge) and a DiMarzio Chopper middle pickup.” If you know what that means, you’re stoked. If not, it’s simple: you can play barre chords that sound like Siamese Dream.

Corgan joins Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, John Mayer, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mark Knopfler, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmsteen, and many others as a guitarist to get the artist treatment from Fender.
