Billie Eilish Slams White People Who Say "All Lives Matter"

"Why is it okay for black people to be called thugs for protesting the murder of innocent people? Do you know why???? White. Fucking. Privilege"

As the U.S. enters day six since the death of George Floyd, and as the ensuing protests against police brutality continue, musicians and artists are increasingly lending their voices to the cause — including Billie Eilish, who has now come out swinging against white people who insist that "all lives matter."

Standing with the Black Lives Matter movement, the artist has issued a statement amid ongoing injustices against people of colour, calling out white people who "make everything about yourself."

In a new Instagram post, Eilish wrote: "If I hear one more white person say 'all lives matter' one more fucking time I'm gonna lose my fucking mind."

She continued: "If all lives matter why are black people killed for just being black? Why are immigrants persecuted? Why are white people given opportunities that people of other races aren't? Why is it okay for white people to protest literally being asked to stay home while carrying semi-automatic weapons? Why is it okay for black people to be called thugs for protesting the murder of innocent people? Do you know why???? White. Fucking. Privilege."

Eilish also captioned the post #blacklivesmatter and #justiceforgeorgefloyd.

The 18-year-old's message of anti-racism arrives following the death of Floyd and days of sustained protests and demonstrations in Minneapolis, as well as multiple other cities across the world. Floyd passed away on Monday (May 25) following an incident with Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin that saw the officer kneeling on Floyd's neck to restrain him, eventually suffocating Floyd to death. Chauvin has since been fired and placed under arrest for third-degree murder and manslaughter.
