The Beta Band haven't been active for almost a decade now, with frontman Steve Mason now focusing on his solo career, but the group's memory lives on — partly thanks to their prominent inclusion in the classic music-nerd flick High Fidelity. This fall, the band's catalogue will be chronicled with the release of a six-CD box set.
The career-spanning package is called The Regal Years (1997-2004). It's due out on October 7 in the UK through Parlophone and offers an overview of the folktronic experimentalists' studio output, along with non-LP extras.
The first four discs consist of the full-length albums The Beta Band (1999), Hot Shots II (2001) and Heroes to Zeroes (2004), plus the classic The Three EPs (1998). These include some bonus tracks in the form of live cuts and remixes. The fifth disc compiles BBC Radio sessions, with disc six bringing together demos, live recordings and an XFM radio session.
