It's been a long while since Montreal's Bent by Elephants released their debut album This Is Water in 2010. Since then, they've lost a member and moved away from their orchestral folk sound, and now they're back with full-length number two. It's called The Shore and it will be out on February 17 through Sunset Hill Music.
This album was produced by former Snailhouse songwriter Michael Feuerstack at Plants and Animals' studio the Treatment Room. Feuerstack collaborated on the mix with the resident engineer Gilles Castilloux.
"Michael's guidance was invaluable," said trumpeter-keyboardist Ryan Frizzell. "He really helped us to solidify our vision of the record and to understand how to realize it."
A press release calls the results "raw and rattling," with an emphasis on "contrapuntal electric guitars and sweeping synths." The Shore was apparently inspired by various life changes, as drummer Eric Dew lost his house in a fire, bassist Paul VanDyk had a child, and singer-guitarist Chelsey Walsh married guitarist Luke Fowlie.
The tracklist is below, along with the band's upcoming tour schedule. It includes a Montreal release show on February 17 followed by a series of Ontario gigs.
