Ben Gibbard Covered Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees" During His Livestream

He's now taking requests for more songs

In the wake of COVID-19-related tour cancellations and social distancing recommendations, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard began live streaming concerts from his home last night (March 17), playing from DCFC and Postal Service's discographies. There was an extra special track included in his setlist though — Gibbard performed a cover of Radiohead's "Fake Plastic Trees."

Tuning in to Facebook Live, the artist gave a short preamble to his set, apologizing for his cough and taking requests from the comments section before kicking off the concert with Postal Service's Give Up track, "We Will Become Silhouettes." Partway through the set, Gibbard decided to play the Radiohead song — and while it's unclear if he chose to perform it on his own accord, or if someone suggested the track, the end result is the same.

Earlier this week, Gibbard announced his plans to livestream daily concerts from his home every day for two weeks — in an effort to have fans congregate digitally instead of in-person to help with social distancing.

Watch his cover of "Fake Plastic Trees" below, and don't forget to tune in again tonight here at 7 p.m. EDT for another livestream show.
