Crawling from the same North Florida scene that produced screamo heroes Hot Water Music has obviously taken its toll on this Gainesville quartet. With songs that gleefully defy melodic and structural convention, the band's atonal racket is hideous yet inspired. From punchy minute-and-half bursts to meandering four-minute pseudo epics, AOP is at once post-punk nihilism and art-rock pageantry rolled into a searing ball of energy and rock. Think Dillinger Four, Boy Sets Fire and early Sonic Youth rolled into one.
