Amy Campbell

Architecture: Live At The Opera House

BY Matt CharltonPublished Jun 1, 2004

Every Matchbox 20-loving hack out there has picked up an acoustic guitar and thought that a room full of people could do with another tale of lost love. Whether you’ve stumbled into one of these scenes at an open mic night or have spent 15 minutes in a college residence, the harsh reality that most people suck becomes plainly obvious. Luckily, there are a few people out there that are good enough to prevent the public from rising up to have mass burnings of acoustic guitars and copies of August and Everything After by the Counting Crows. Amy Campbell is a shining example of this. On her debut Architecture, (which is also a live album) Amy shows herself as both a great guitar player and songwriter; but Amy’s voice is her real highlight. Avoiding just being technically good, she has real soul in her delivery. Embracing the low moments of a song as much as she does the high, each track effortlessly moves with mood and story playing off of each other with equal importance.
