Following a fresh signing with Dead Oceans, the innovative freak folks of Akron/Family have shared a fresh batch of details about their upcoming full-length, as well as their new Canadian-friendly tour.
Given its rather awesome title, Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free, the much-anticipated album is set to arrive May 5 courtesy of the band's new label and will mark the group's first effort as trio. According to a recent interview, the album also promises to bring more "extreme elements," with the group's Miles Seaton warning fans to be ready for the occasional burst of "raw, primal noise."
To give you taste, Akron/Family have lined up a string of tour dates preceding the album's release, whereby they'll be previewing new material during brief residencies in a handful of North American cities. On each night the band will also hand-pick the openers and invite special guest musicians to join Akron/Family on stage. In Canada's case, those residencies mean two double-headers in Montreal and Toronto, where leftfield Canuck popsters Born Ruffians will open all four shows, as well as one night in Hamilton with Rock Plaza Central on board.
While no tracklisting for Set 'Em Wild, Set 'Em Free has been announced yet, the band have revealed their tour dates and most of the openers. Here they are:
