For as long as it has existed, techno music has been scoffed at by rockers who try to dismiss its nuances and distinct lack of guitar solos. But now, it's official: a top German court has determined that techno is, in fact, music.

The distinction arose during a legal argument over reduced sales tax rates for concert halls in Germany, with infamous techno clubs like Berghain arguing that they should receive the same treatment as more traditional concert venues, Agence France-Presse reports. And a judge agreed.

In an October 29 ruling, the court ruled that "the average visitor" to a nightclub was primarily there for the music, adding that club nights were thus "similar to concerts."

The judge added that DJs don't just play other people's tracks, but instead "they perform their own new pieces of music using instruments in the broader sense, to create new sound sequences that have their own character."

In other words, it's time for you to broaden your horizons and start listening to some oonts-oonts music.
