Earlier this month, Deadpool shattered box-office expectations, bringing in half a billion dollars despite its R rating. Following its success, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn explained that Hollywood suits will likely misunderstand its success and create more movies like Deadpool instead of more interesting movies in general. Like clockwork, our next major superhero movie will now be getting an R-rated release.
Zack Snyder's long-in-the-works Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to arrive next month, and while the standard movie won't be slapped with a Restricted rating, it will be followed by an "Ultimate Edition" for more adult audiences.
Numerous sources point toward a FilmRatings.com listing, which explains that the film's Ultimate Edition will be rated R "for sequences of violence," adding that the content in this version is different from that of the PG-13 version.
In other words, the R-rated Batman and Superman movie will not feature any make-up sex, neither between its leads or involving Wonder Woman and Doomsday. Instead, it'll get its adult rating due to too much violence.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives on March 25.
