'Star Wars: Episode VIII' Release Pushed Back

Though we've all been salivating over what might happen in the next official Star Wars sequel, it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer than initially expected. After all, Episode VIII has officially been delayed.

The film, which is being helmed by Looper director Rian Johnson, was originally slated for release in May of 2017. Now, however, it's been pushed back to a December 15 release date.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney insiders claim they want to repeat the box office bonanza that Star Wars created over the last Christmas break.

Other sources have also reported that the delay could be due to script rewrites. Either way, it's going to be just under two years before we get another Star Wars sequel in the main batch of releases.

Of course, there's still plenty of Star Wars on the way. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will arrive on December 16 of this year.
