No, Britney Spears Will Not Be Appearing in the Weeknd's 'The Idol'

Yesterday, the pop star posted to Instagram that she'd "just shot" a film called 'The Idol'

Yesterday (November 23), Britney Spears posted on her Instagram that she'd "just shot a movie" called The Idol, promising that it would feature "hits and a lot bright pics to put in my beautiful family's faces !!!!!"

Fans immediately jumped to the possibility that Spears was referring to the Weeknd's recently green-lit HBO series of the same name, which is set to star Troye Sivan, Lily-Rose Depp and Tunde Adimpe.

However, TMZ reports that Spears' team confirmed that she won't be part of the upcoming show — which hasn't started filming yet, making it impossible that she'd "just shot it" — and that they're not actually sure what film Spears is talking about in her post.

Spears has been having fun with her Instagram account since she was freed from her conservatorship, so it's entirely possible that she's just fucking with people — the cat-with-wine picture that accompanied the announcement seems to point that way. However, she may be referring to something she shot herself at home.

We'll have to see if Spears' version of The Idol ever comes to fruition. So far, there's no official word on when the Weeknd's series will arrive either.
