Jean-Michel Blais Details Soundtrack for 'Matthias & Maxime'
Xavier Dolan's Matthias & Maxime received its world premiere at Cannes this past May, and Jean-Michel Blais has now detailed his accompanying soundtrack for the film.

Blais's soundtrack runs 11 songs in length and is set to arrive October 25 through Arts & Crafts. The soundtrack was developed in close collaboration between the Montreal-based composer and Canadian director, using the music of Franz Schubert for inspiration.

Unlike a usual film scoring method, some tracks were written first, the scene was shot to the music, and then edited to fit it, rather than the other way around.

"I was touched, moved, incredulous... without reading the script, I accepted right away," Blais said of the project in a statement. "Growing up with every single movie [Dolan] has made, it was a simple choice for me cancel my vacations and get to work. Following a fairly unorthodox process, we ended up keeping the demos, improvised in the studio — variations on a Schubert theme — creating a cohesive musical soundscape that Xavier used during the shoot and the editing period."

Alongside the announcement, Blais has shared a performance video of album cut "Le souper," a track that did not end up in the film's final edit.

In addition to the new soundtrack, Blais also has a series of Canadian and European dates coming up. You can see his full schedule below.

Blais delivered sophomore LP Dans ma main in 2018 and treated it to a remix EP earlier this year.
