Following some previous rumours, Tron 3 is getting one step closer to being a reality, as the upcoming film now reportedly has a director — and Jared Leto will star.
As Deadline reports, the upcoming Tron film will be directed by Garth Davis, with Leto taking the starring role. Davis is perhaps best known for 2016 film Lion, which was nominated for multiple Oscars.
According to the report, Jesse Wigutow wrote the most recent draft of the script to Tron 3, which has yet to get an official title from Disney. Leto is also producing the film, along with Justin Springer and Emma Ludbrook.
News of the new Tron film follows recent rumours that Daft Punk may once again be soundtracking the film. The French duo did the soundtrack for the last Tron movie, 2010's Tron: Legacy, which was directed by Joseph Kosinki.
Mitchell Leib, Walt Disney Studios' president of music & soundtracks, previously said the following in early July: "We're looking at making a sequel to Tron [Legacy] now. We're making a Tron 3... [It's] a really phenomenal script that we're very excited about."
He added, "The right and first thing to do is to bring Daft Punk back and see if they want to [return]… We don't even know who will be directing yet. We're hopeful that Joe Kosinski will come back and do another one. A lot of things gotta fall into the right places."
