While 2020 was full of all kinds of dark, Japanese anime Kimetsu No Yaiba emerged as a shining beacon of hope — especially when it came to Japan's pandemic-stricken box office. But while the massively successful Demon Slayer: Mugen Train smashed all sorts of box office records in Japan, the anime series' film climax has yet to arrive in North America — something that is finally about to change.
After what feels like an entirety, Demon Slayer – Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train is set for a North American theatrical release on April 23.
Arriving via Aniplex of America and Funimation, the film will be R-rated and will include 4DX and an IMAX component. It will also be available in both dubbed and subtitled versions. It's unclear at this point, however, if a VOD release will arrive at the same time.

Mugen Train stands as the highest-grossing film in Japanese history, officially dethroning Spirited Away back in December. But until then, Spirited Away had held the title for an impressive 19 years.
Outside Japan, Mugen Train opened at No. 1 in Australia and New Zealand last month, and over in Korea, the film has been sitting in the No. 2 spot since its release in January.
But here's the thing — you will need to watch all 26 episodes of Kimetsu No Yaiba before you dive into Mugen Train, or chances are you're going to be more than a little lost. Luckily, the show is now streaming on Netflix here in Canada and the U.S., so you still have plenty of time to catch up.
