Buddy

Kristoffer (Nicolai Cleve Broch) is a 20-something Norwegian who videotapes himself and his buddies leaping out of buildings and doing other crazy stunts. Life's a laugh. By chance, his video diary winds up on a popular TV show and Kristoffer and his two roommates, Geir (Aksel Hennie) and Stig (Anders Baasmo Christiansen), become overnight stars. Geir is a womaniser who doesn't own up to being a daddy to his estranged son, while Stig has a phobia about leaving their apartment complex. Despite sudden fame, Kristoffer's love life remains rocky, as he swings between the sophisticated Elisabeth (Janne Formoe) and earthy new roommate Henriette (Pia Tjelta), who happens to have a boyfriend. Buddy is a feel-good movie about friendship, of supporting each other in crisis and enjoying good times together. Though inoffensive yet sincere, Buddy is ultimately lightweight; it doesn't leave you with much after you watch it and suffers from predictability in character and story. (Mongrel Media)
