Anne Heche is "not expected to survive" following a car crash last week.

UPDATE (8/12, 2:15 p.m. ET): Anne Heche has died in a Los Angeles hospital.

A statement from Heche's family and friends explains, "Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne Heche suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition. She is not expected to survive. It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she is being kept on life support to determine if any are viable."

Heche was in a car accident last Friday (August 5). She crashed into a home in Los Angeles and suffered severe burns. She was reportedly driving at a high speed and, according to an LAPD spokesperson, was under the influence and had narcotics in her system.

The statement from her family adds, "Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit. More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life's work — especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love. She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light."

Heche is 53. She rose to fame with her Emmy-winning role on the soap opera Another World starting in the late '80s. She appeared in numerous '90s films including Donnie Brasco (1997), Volcano (1997), I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and Psycho (1998). She remained active in recent years, appearing in films like The Best of Enemies (2019), My Friend Dahmer (2017) and The Last Word (2017).

She has two children. She was married once, to Coleman "Coley" Laffoon, from 2001 to 2007. She was in a relationship with Ellen Degeneres from 1997 to 2000.
