Back in March, Gucci Mane announced that he would be heading north for his first-ever tour of Canada, though fans of the Atlanta trap star were wary of whether he would even make it over the border. Now, it's been reported that he will have no issues crossing into the country.
TMZ reports that the rapper has obtained a temporary resident permit and is cleared to enter Canada for his May tour. He'll play 10 total shows in the country this month alongside August Alsina, Merkules and Peter Jackson.
The site notes that the rapper obtained the permit with the help of an immigration attorney. Sources at the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) told TMZ that past involvement in criminal activity is cause to prevent someone from entering the country.
Gucci Mane's criminal history has been well-documented, and the rapper himself detailed his many run-ins with the law in his 2017 autobiography. After being released from prison in 2016, he even rapped, "I got so many felonies, I might can't never go to Canada."
A number of Gucci's hip-hop contemporaries have also faced border issues when attempting to tour or perform in Canada. Last month, Kodak Black was arrested at the U.S./Canada border on drug and weapons charges, leading to the cancellation of his "Dying to Live Tour" stops in Canada.
Last year, G-Eazy was turned away at the border ahead of a performance in Calgary, and was also forced to cancel a Toronto performance after being denied again one month afterwards.
Other rappers who have experienced border trouble when attempting to play in Canada include Lil Uzi Vert, the Game, Danny Brown, Young Thug, 21 Savage and more.
