The Tragically Hip have been named ambassadors of Record Store Day Canada 2024, celebrating independent record stores from coast to coast with a limited release of a legendary live set.

In a year where the Hip are celebrating 40 years of music-making, their RSD Canada ambassadorship will be marked by the debut physical release of Live at CBGB's, capturing a 1993 performance from the Kingston, ON, icons at the legendary New York venue.

The Tragically Hip's 1993 gig at CBGB took place months after releasing their seminal third album Fully Completely, and the band played nearly the entire record during the show. As they detailed in a 2022 edition of their "Tales from the Hip" newsletter, songs like "Wheat Kings" and "Eldorado" were deemed "not exactly appropriate for the setting."

Live at CBGB's now makes its physical debut for RSD Canada 2024 as a 12-inch on pink vinyl. For those of the tape persuasion, the release will be treated to a limited run of pink cassettes at participating record stores in Canada and the US.

Record Store Day 2024 takes place April 20.

Past ambassadors of Record Store Day Canada include Triumph, the Sheepdogs and Our Lady Peace, while artists including Taylor Swift and Pearl Jam have held the title globally.
