Steve Earle Says Noel Gallagher Is the "Most Overrated Songwriter in the Whole History of Pop Music"

He thinks "that guy Damon Albarn is a real fuckin' songwriter," though

Apparently Liam Gallagher isn't the only one taking shots at Noel Gallagher these days. Country-rock vet Steve Earle has shared his opinion on Oasis's main songwriter, and he didn't have too many kind words for the guy.

Speaking to The Guardian, Earle says he's become a fan of English Premiere League soccer, supporting Arsenal — purely out of spite for Manchester City. "I dislike Man City because it is Oasis's club," he said.

"Noel Gallagher is the most overrated songwriter in the whole history of pop music," he added. "They were perfect for the Brit press because they behaved badly and got all the attention."

Rubbing salt in the wound, he continued to praise Oasis's longtime rivals Blur.

"Blur were really great," Earle continued. "That guy Damon Albarn is a real fuckin' songwriter."

Hopefully his comments don't incite another feud between the elder Gallagher brother and Albarn, as the pair only recently patched things up. Plus, they've already taken enough shit for their team-up from Liam.

Earle's latest record with the Dukes, So You Wanna Be an Outlaw, lands tomorrow (June 16).

Gallagher, meanwhile, is gearing up to release his next solo record this fall. While we wait for it, head over to Exclaim!'s Gallagher Brother Insult Generator to come up with some guesses as to what kind of comebacks he might hurl in Earle's direction.
