One thing P!nk will not get down with is censorship. The aerial singer will be giving away 2,000 copies of books banned in Florida at her upcoming shows in the state.
Audience members at her shows in Miami, Sunrise and Orlando shows can receive copies of four titles forbidden from Florida schools and libraries: Todd Parr's The Family Book, Amanda Gorman's The Hill We Climb, Toni Morrison's Beloved, and Stacia Deutsch's Girls Who Code.
This comes as the pop star partners with PEN America to protest the more than 1,400 books Florida has banned since last year. Books that explore the topics of racism, sexuality and gender have been disproportionately affected by the ban — largely due to Governor Ron DeSantis's "Don't Say Gay" Bill.
"Books have held a special joy for me from the time I was a child, and that's why I am unwilling to stand by and watch while books are banned by schools," she said in a statement. "It's especially hateful to see authorities take aim at books about race and racism and against LGBTQ authors and those of colour. We have made so many strides toward equality in this country and no one should want to see this progress reversed."
The shows in question begin today (November 14), with P!nk's last Florida date of her tour happening on November 19. Hopefully she doesn't have to kick out anyone who disagrees with her this time.
